Future Builders Shine at Skills Challenge

Duffey Southeast Construction recently partnered with SkillsUSA, AGC Georgia, and RaLin Construction to host the Northwest Georgia Skills Challenge for high school students. While the event showcased impressive craftsmanship and friendly competition, its purpose reached far beyond the competition day. This event was about creating awareness, expanding opportunity, and helping young people see themselves in a thriving and impactful industry.

Northwest Georgia Skills Challenge for High School Students

A Foundation of Practical Preparation

Throughout the competition, students tackled real construction challenges that mirrored what they would face on the job. This experience allowed them to test their abilities, learn new techniques, and build confidence in a supportive environment. For many, it was the first time they could truly see how the skills they’re learning in the classroom translate into a future career.

A Launchpad for High-Demand Career Pathways

Through events like this, students learn that they can begin building a career even while still in high school. Apprenticeships, technical training programs, and direct-to-work opportunities all offer competitive wages and long-term stability. By participating, students saw that construction offers more than a job. It provides a pathway to meaningful work and a promising future.

Connecting With Industry Mentors

One of the most impactful elements of the Skills Challenge was the opportunity for students to meet professionals from Duffey Southeast, RaLin Construction, and other leading trade partners. These conversations exposed students to a wide range of career options beyond fieldwork, including marketing, design, architecture, and project management. Networking at this stage can open doors, spark mentorships, and help students make informed decisions about their next steps.

The Skills Challenge demonstrated how powerful industry involvement can be in shaping the next generation of builders. By offering real experience, career exposure, and personal encouragement, we and our partners are helping students discover their potential while supporting the future workforce.
